Olympics Ratings Climb

NBC’s prime-time Olympics broadcast Tuesday jumped to an 18.3 national Nielsen rating and 30 share, the highest ratings from Athens so far, and up 18 percent from the Sydney games four years ago. Tuesday’s broadcast drew an audience of 71 million total viewers on NBC, up from 64 million in Sydney. Including cable, a total of 86 million viewers watched the 2004 games, up from 71 million on NBC, CNBC and MSNBC in 2002.

NBC’s 2004 Athens Olympics five-day prime-time coverage rose to a 15.4 national rating/27 share, surpassing the five-day average for Sydney by 5 percent.
