Jane Pauley’s much-anticipated foray into the talk-show space debuted to solid numbers Monday, pulling an average 2.4 rating for its primary runs in metered markets, according to Nielsen. That’s down 8 percent from its lead-in but up 4 percent from the same time period a year ago.

Distributor NBC Universal Television, which has cleared the show in 99 percent of the country, heralded the numbers as the best syndication debut since “Dr. Phil.”

On WNBC-TV in New York at 11 a.m., “The Jane Pauley Show” averaged a fourth place 2.1 rating, up 5 percent from its lead-in and up 40 percent from “The John Walsh Show,” which aired in the same period last year.

On KNBC-TV in Los Angeles at 10 a.m., the show didn’t fare as well, coming in at a fifth place 1.0 rating, down 29 percent from its lead-in and down 23 percent from a year ago.
