Mac, Chappelle, Top BET Awards

The first-annual BET Comedy Awards gave its top honors to Fox’s “The Bernie Mac Show,” Comedy Central’s “Chappelle’s Show” and ABC’s “My Wife and Kids” at its taping Tuesday night at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium in Pasadena, Calif.

Steve Harvey hosted the inaugural event, which featured music performances by LL Cool J and 213. “The Bernie Mac Show” won outstanding comedy series, and “Chappelle’s Show” took outstanding comedy variety series; and on-screen husband-and-wife “My Wife and Kids” leads Damon Wayans and Tisha Campbell-Martin took outstanding actor and actress in a comedy series.

The awards will air Oct. 12.
