NBC Universal has promoted Shelly Tremain to VP, media law. The announcement was made today by Andrea Hartman, senior VP and deputy general counsel, NBC Universal, to whom Ms. Tremain reports.

Ms. Tremain joined NBC in December 2000 as media counsel, focusing on scripted series and news programs for NBC Entertainment, NBC Studios and NBC News, but soon was given the task of overseeing legal matters related to reality series.

When the development slate of unscripted entertainment programs almost quintupled between 2002 and 2004, Ms. Tremain’s responsibilities increased. In her new role, she will oversee legal matters regarding NBC Universal’s reality shows.

Before she came to NBC, Ms. Tremain served as a litigation associate at the Los Angeles law firm of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher.
