Murdoch, Ailes Compensation Revealed

Rupert Murdoch took home 22 percent more in the 2004 fiscal year than he did a year ago, according to News Corp.’s annual report issued Wednesday.

The media giant’s chairman and CEO earned $4.5 million in salary, a $12.5 million bonus and $145,000 in other income for a total of $17.15 million for the 12 months ended June 30. A year earlier, Mr. Murdoch took home nearly $14.1 million, including $4.5 million in salary, a $7.5 million bonus and nearly $2.1 million in other income.

President and Chief Operating Officer Peter Chernin, meanwhile, took home $17.6 million during the same period, split among $8.3 million in salary, an $8.9 million bonus and $380,000 in other income. A year earlier, Mr. Chernin earned nearly $16.8 million.

For his six months at News Corp., Chase Carey earned $4.6 million, compared with year-earlier remuneration of $3.7 million. His 2004 compensation included $2.3 million in connection with his resignation to become CEO of DirecTV Group, of which News Corp. controls 34 percent.

Meanwhile, Roger Ailes, CEO of Fox News Channel, took home $7.1 million for the fiscal year, down from a year earlier, when he earned nearly $8.6 million.
