Spike TV has tapped hip-hop artist Snoop Dogg to host its second annual “Video Game Awards,” which will be broadcast live Dec. 14 from Barker Hanger in Santa Monica, Calif.

Snoop Dogg has starred as himself in several popular video games such as “True Crime: Streets of LA” and “NBA Live 2003,” while his music has been used in several game soundtracks.

“Snoop is an icon and the perfect example of how Hollywood and the music industry have embraced the video game genre and catapulted it into pop culture,” said Casey Patterson, co-executive producer of Spike TV’s “Video Game Awards.” “He’s a platinum recording artist, a movie star and a true gamer.”
