Alliance Atlantis Communications, co-producer of the “CSI” franchise, on Tuesday swung to a third-quarter profit of $18.9 million Canadian ($15.8 million) from a year-earlier loss of $10.8 million Canadian, as the company received a lift from its “CSI” franchise and higher advertising revenue.

Revenue was largely flat at $214 million Canadian ($179.2 million), versus $213 million last year.

Alliance Atlantis, which in addition to co-producing the “CSI” franchise is also a Canadian broadcaster, said its advertising revenue jumped 28 percent and helped the broadcasting division post a 17 percent rise in earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization.

The entertainment division, which manages the “CSI” franchise, posted a 110 percent surge in EBITDA, driven by the ratings strength of the three series, which run on CBS, as well as second-window cable licensing deals of “CSI” on Spike TV and weekend syndication on local broadcasting stations.
