Watchdog Group Submits FCC Complaint

The watchdog Parents Television Council on Tuesday announced that it is asking Congress to investigate Federal Communications Commission practices in accounting for indecency complaints.

PTC is alleging that the FCC is undercounting complaints by lumping together all of the thousands of separate complaints that PTC and similar groups generate from their members as single complaints.

“The FCC is playing games with their accounting and is being deliberately dishonest with the American people,” said L. Brent Bozell, PTC president, in a statement. “The FCC needs to count each and every complaint, regardless if the majority complaining are PTC members,” Mr. Bozell continued. “When 1 million people come together under one roof to voice their concerns, it’s not one person complaining, it’s 1 million people complaining.” An FCC spokesman declined comment.
