ABC Takes Week in Total Viewers and Demo

Powered by two college football bowl games and an NFL playoff game, ABC won the week ended Jan. 9 in both total viewers and the adults 18 to 49 demographic.

ABC’s Sunday night drama “Desperate Housewives” returned from a pre-emption during the previous week to take the No. 1 spot in adults 18 to 49, scoring an 11.2 rating, according to Nielsen Media Research. The AFC/NFC Saturday night playoff game came in second with a 10.4, followed by CBS’s “CSI” (9.7), ABC’s “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” (8.6), and ABC’s “Lost” (8.4).

The top show among total viewers was “CSI,” which garnered 28.86 million. Saturday night football came in second with 25.76 million, followed by “Housewives” (25.20 million), CBS’s “Without a Trace” (23.76 million) and “Lost” (21.59 million).

Among debuting shows, NBC’s “Medium” came in 12th in the demo with a 6.3, tying the first hour of a two-hour season premiere of Fox’s “24.”

In adults 18 to 49, ABC won the week with a 6.0, followed by NBC (3.8), CBS (3.7), Fox (3.6), UPN (1.3) and The WB (1.2).
