Sucherman Consulting Group, a New York-based management consulting firm focusing on the media industry, said Tuesday it has hired Alan Blaustein as a senior consultant to expand Sucherman’s new media and technology practice.

The hire coincides with the media industry’s renewed interest in integrating technology and entertainment, and signals a desire of the firm to delve more deeply into the new media and technology space.

“[Mr. Blaustein’s] addition to our team represents a major expansion and growth initiative for the firm in extending our entertainment and media expertise to further enhance our capabilities in the new media and technology arenas,” said Stuart Sucherman, the company’s president.

Mr. Blaustein joins New York-based Sucherman after serving as CEO of Flexplay Technologies, a company that developed the flexible-play DVD. Before that, Mr. Blaustein was president of worldwide corporate development for About.com, and earlier was a lawyer working on mergers and acquisitions in the tech sector.
