Regular-season NFL ratings on CBS rose 1 percent to a 9.7 household rating and 22 share this season, while ratings on Fox fell to 10.1/22 from 10.3/23 a year ago. The margin between the AFC and NFC packages was the smallest since CBS acquired the AFC package in 1998.

A Fox spokesman said that the NFC had one of its worst years, with only four teams finishing with winning records. He added that Fox’s pre-game show beat CBS’s show by a wider margin this year among households and men 18 to 49. Last Sunday, CBS’s regional game coverage, highlighted by the New York Jets versus the St. Louis Rams and Pittsburgh at Buffalo, was CBS’s highest-rated regional game coverage since the NFL returned to CBS in 1998.
