NBC has ordered a spinoff of its reality series “The Biggest Loser,” the network announced Monday. The new series will have stand-alone themed episodes where two factions compete to lose weight. Upcoming episodes, according to the network, will pit “town versus town, family versus family, bride versus bride, co-workers versus co-workers and more.” The show’s title will change with episode, e.g., “The Biggest Loser: Town vs. Town.”

“The success of the first ‘Biggest Loser’ competition proved that viewers are hungry for original and emotional storytelling,” said Craig Plestis, NBC senior VP of alternative programs and development, in a statement. “Likewise, the unique format of our new series’ themed and closed-ended episodes will help us cast a wider net to reach a more diverse group of people.”

“The Biggest Loser” more than doubled ratings among adults 18 to 49 in its time period, according to the network. The show is a production of Reveille, 25/7 Productions, 3 Ball Productions and NBC Universal Television Studio.
