Though it scored its lowest ratings since 1997 in the 18 to 49 adults demographic, Sunday’s “The 47th Annual Grammy Awards” brought CBS a win for the night in that demo as well as all key male and female demos and total viewers.

The Grammys scored an 8.1 preliminary national rating in adults 18 to 49 and garnered 18.83 million viewers, according to Nielsen Media Research. The three-hour show led the 8 p.m. (ET) and 10 p.m. hours in the demo, but at 9 p.m. ABC’s “Desperate Housewives” took the lead, scoring a 9.4 in the demo in its first half-hour, compared to an 8.4 for the Grammys. At 9:30 p.m. “Housewives” grew to a 9.8, versus an 8.0 for the Grammys.

“Housewives” during its hour also bested the Grammys in total viewers, adults 18 to 34, women 18 to 49 and men 18 to 34.

ABC wasn’t able to parlay its 9 p.m. performance into a nightly win in the demo. On Sunday CBS scored a 6.8 rating in adults 18 to 49, followed by ABC (6.4), NBC (2.8), Fox (2.7) and The WB (0.8).
