David Doebler has been promoted to president and general manager of WVIT-TV, the NBC Universal-owned and -operated station in Hartford, Conn. The appointment is effective immediately.

Mr. Doebler had been president and general manager of sister station WVTM-TV in Birmingham, Ala., since 2002. He succeeds Mark Hoffman, who was named president of CNBC in February.

“Dave brings a wealth of experience and talent to this new role,” said Jay Ireland, president of NBC Universal Television Stations. “He is an accomplished leader, who has consistently proven himself at WVTM and in his numerous roles within NBC’s Television Stations Division.”

Mr. Doebler was vice president of sales and creative services for WNCN-TV, NBC’s owned and operated station in Raleigh, N.C., from 1999 to 2002. He was promoted to that post after serving as sales manager for Philadelphia’s WCAU-TV for one year. From 1995 through 1997 he was WCAU’s national sales manager, a role he was promoted to after NBC bought WCAU, where he had been an account executive for eight years.
