Fox announced Sunday audience and judges’ favorite Mario Vazquez has withdrawn from the music reality series “American Idol.”

Mr. Vazquez had made it to “Idol’s” final round of auditions, one of thousands to make it to the top 12 spots. A statement from Fox said Mr. Vazquez had withdrawn for unspecified “personal reasons.”

Recently eliminated semifinalist Nikko Smith will fill Mr. Vazquez’s spot. The show resumes with Mr. Smith and the 11 other finalists Tuesday, March 15.

“American Idol” was created and is executive produced by Simon Fuller. Cecile Frot-Coutaz, Nigel Lythgoe and Ken Warwick also serve as executive producers.
