HDNet had the distinction of being the only network last week to cover in high definition events in Rome following the death of Pope John Paul II. Touting an “unprecedented high-definition view of the pope lying in state,” an HDNet spokesperson said that the pontiff’s body was carried within mere feet of the network’s detail-magnifying cameras. Asked whether presenting death in hi-def might be a bit morbid, a spokesperson said: “It’s sort of awkward to say it, but there are millions of religious people who want to see his body, and this is the next best thing to being there. It’s more about covering huge world events, just like any news organization.”
