LIN TV’s Spanish-language network WAPA-America received a huge boost Thursday when LIN and cable giant Comcast signed an affiliation agreement that enables the network to pursue a distribution deal with the multiple system operator.

LIN declined to provide many specifics about the agreement, but said it is a multiyear pact that enables WAPA-America to explore distribution on Comcast systems in markets where WAPA-America’s target audience resides. LIN said it has already begun negotiating with Comcast for carriage on relevant cable systems.

WAPA-America was launched last year as a Spanish-language network targeting mainly people of Puerto Rican descent. Programming is based on content found on LIN’s television station in Puerto Rico, WAPA-TV, including local news and locally produced entertainment programming, as well as content from WAPA’s library of prime-time shows.
