United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan has asked MTV Networks Vice Chairman Bill Roedy to lead a committee of media executives in the fight against HIV/AIDS.

On Tuesday in Cannes, France, Mr. Annan and media executives laid out plans to increase membership and AIDS awareness during the second annual Global Media AIDS Initiative. Executives representing each of the world’s regions will be appointed in the coming weeks.

“The media have not done enough to fight this epidemic, and I will be challenging industry leaders everywhere to step up our efforts by using our airwaves, our creativity and our influence in our communities,” Mr. Roedy said.
