ABC Picks Up ‘Grey’s Anatomy’

ABC has picked up its surprise midseason medical drama hit “Grey’s Anatomy” for the 2005-06 season.

The “Desperate Housewives” lead-out has led its Sunday, 10 p.m. (ET) time period in total viewers and the adults 18 to 49 demographic. For the week ended May 1, “Anatomy” was the No. 5 show in adults 18 to 49 with an 8.2 rating, according to Nielsen Media Research.

Shonda Rhimes is creator and executive producer of the Touchstone Television series. Mark Gordon, Betsy Beers and Jim Parriott are executive producers.

“Anatomy” joins seven other series ABC has already picked up for 2005-06: “According to Jim,” “Alias,” “America’s Funniest Home Videos,” “Boston Legal,” “Desperate Housewives,” “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” and “Lost.”
