During Showtime’s July 16 executive session at the Television Critics Association press tour, Entertainment President Robert Greenblatt gave a wide range of responses to the question of whether “Fat Actress,” which he called a “seven-episode event” rather than a series in his opening remarks, would return for a second season.
Mr. Greenblatt alternately replied:
“We haven’t decided.”
“Creatively there were some things about the show that I had issues with.”
“[Star Kirstie Alley] is down 42 pounds. … We’re trying to figure out what a second season would be creatively because she isn’t as heavy as she was in the first season.”
“We’re trying to figure out what the future might be or whether it was a sort of one-time kind of thing.”
“Some of the episodes were better than others, in my opinion.”
“It tended to get a little farcical and over the top in places, some much more over the top than others.”
“I think there’s a big tonal issue as well. … There seems to have been a pretty fair rejection by the public for shows that go into the Hollywood arena.”
“It was an enormous success for us.”
