Todd Cunningham, formerly managing editor of Variety and Daily Variety, has been appointed special projects editor of TelevisionWeek, and Copy Chief Jenny Butler has been promoted and given the additional title of assistant managing editor, TVWeek Editor Alex Ben Block and Publisher Chuck Ross announced last week.

“Todd will bring tremendous experience, insight and industry knowledge to our special issues and special reports,” Mr. Block said. “We are also delighted to recognize the contributions made by Jenny Butler, who has helped improve our publication in so many ways.”

TVWeek has demonstrated an ability to produce the best-written and most smartly designed special issues in entertainment trade publishing and I am confident the addition of a journalist of the high caliber of Todd Cunningham will build on that tradition,” Mr. Ross said. “And I am very pleased to see Jenny Butler get a well-deserved promotion as recognition for her excellent efforts.”

Mr. Cunningham, a veteran entertainment journalist and editor, will oversee production of the magazine’s special issues, including a wide range of special reports, theme issues, tributes and market-driven specials.

He comes to TVWeek from Hispanic Business, where he was managing editor. Previously, he spent six years at Variety and Daily Variety. During his tenure as managing editor of the trade publications, he was instrumental in the launches of Variety.com and Variety Gotham, the newspaper’s daily New York edition.

Prior to Variety, Mr. Cunningham was a news, entertainment and sports editor at the Long Beach (Calif.) Press-Telegram. In 1992 he served as president of the Los Angeles Newspaper Guild.

Ms. Butler has served as copy chief of TVWeek for two years. She has an extensive background in newspapers, magazines and newspaper technology.

Before TVWeek, Ms. Butler worked at The Dallas Morning News as a pagination system administrator and trainer and as assistant editor of the weekly newspaper operation at the San Antonio Express-News. She also has worked as a newspaper reporter, copy editor, section editor and photographer.
