NBC Station Group Sets Up Digital Media Unit

The NBC Universal Television Stations group has created a unit to focus on digital media and strategic marketing initiatives. Ric Harris has been named to the newly created position of executive VP and general manager of Digital Media and Strategic Marketing.

Mr. Harris most recently was VP and general manager of Scripps-Howard-owned WEWS-TV, the ABC affiliate in Cleveland, whose Web site became a profit center during Mr. Harris’ tenure. He starts his new assignment Aug. 29.

The new operation will work closely with the general managers of NBC Universal’s television stations and will coordinate its local efforts with the NBC Universal Digital Media Group. Mr. Harris will report to Jay Ireland, president of NBC Universal Television Stations.

Also joining the Digital Media Group are Mark French as director of multimedia sales and strategic marketing, effective Aug. 15, and Brian Duffy as director of interactive sales, effective immediately.

Mr. French most recently has been VP of sales and programming at WRNN-TV, an independent station in Manhattan. Mr. Duffy most recently was director of sales for the NBC Universal Television Stations national sales office in Dallas.

“As the broadcast industry continues to change and the digital landscape continues to grow and evolve, it is imperative that our stations continue to embrace this new technology and capitalize on the many opportunities it presents,” Mr. Ireland said.
