Disney Names Cheng Exec VP of Digital Media

As part of a broader strategy to take advantage of digital technology, The Walt Disney Co.’s media networks division on Monday named Albert Cheng as executive VP of digital media, a newly created position.

Reporting to Anne Sweeney, co-chairman of the media networks division, Mr. Cheng will be responsible for the overall management and strategic oversight of the division’s digital media efforts, including the development of new revenue streams based on the company’s broadcast and cable networks. That will include forming new digital media platforms, such as video-on-demand, broadband and mobile services.

Previously, Mr. Cheng was senior VP of business strategy and development for Disney and ESPN Networks affiliate sales and marketing. Before that he was senior VP of distribution strategy and operations for ABC Cable Networks Group. Prior to joining ABC Cable Networks in October 2000, Mr. Cheng was director of distribution strategy at Fox Cable Networks Group and did a stint as a business strategy consultant.
