After six years, Lifetime has canceled its veteran drama “Strong Medicine,” the network announced Thursday. The series was the longest-running original drama on basic cable and anchored Lifetime’s Sunday nights. Lifetime made the decision despite a modest increase in ratings this season.

“We’re grateful for all the contributions of executive producer Tammy Ader and Whoopi Goldberg and the cast led by Rick Schroeder and Rosa Blasi,” the network said in a statement. “However, after 132 episodes, we felt that the show had, as all television programs eventually do, run its course and it was time to offer our viewers another option.”
