The Senate Commerce Committee voted 19 to 3 Thursday afternoon to approve legislation that requires broadcasters to make the switch to DTV by April 7, 2009.

Earlier in the session the committee voted 17 to 5 to defeat an amendment by Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., that would have required broadcasters to make the switch to digital TV by April 7, 2007.
