Verizon Communications said Thursday that it inked a carriage agreement with MTV Networks for channels to be broadcast on Verizon’s video service FiOS TV, adding a critical component to the telephone giant’s video product.

Terms of the deal, which was signed prior to the first launch of the FiOS TV product in Keller, Texas, on Sept. 22, were not disclosed.

The agreement includes carriage of many of MTV’s and BET’s linear channels, including BET, MTV, Comedy Central, Nickelodeon and Spike as well as many digital channels. In addition, Verizon will deliver MTV Networks’ video-on-demand content on the FiOS VOD platform, offer MTV’s digital audio channels and broadband content from MTV and Nickelodeon.

Verizon’s deal with MTV Networks is the latest in a string of deals inked by the telephone giant, which has deployed a strategy of offering video services to compete with cable and to offset customer losses in its core wire-line business.
