NBC is ordering a new legal drama series from prolific “Law & Order” producer Dick Wolf for midseason 2005-06.

The one-hour series, “Conviction,” is described by the network and NBC Universal Television Studio as a “character-oriented story focusing on young assistant district attorneys in New York who are confronted with tough high-profile cases that challenge their limited experience.”

Casting has not been finalized for the series, which has a 13-episode order. “Conviction” will be shot on the sets used last season for Mr. Wolf’s canceled drama series “Law & Order: Trial by Jury.”

“I’m pleased and gratified that the gamble that was taken to hold the ‘Trial by Jury’ sets in place has paid off,” Mr. Wolf said in a statement.

“Conviction” is a Wolf Films production in association with NBC Universal Television Studio. Dick Wolf, Walon Green, Rick Eid and Peter Jankowski are executive producing. Mr. Green and Mr. Eid are writing the pilot.
