Cable operator Mediacom Communications reported Wednesday a narrowed third-quarter loss of $2.7 million, compared with a year-earlier loss of $12.8 million, as the company’s bundling initiatives helped offset subscriber losses related to a spate of hurricanes in the Gulf Coast region.

Revenue advanced 5 percent to $275 million, as the company posted gains in digital cable, high-speed data and phone subscriptions.

The company also reported losing around 17,000 basic-cable subscribers in the quarter, largely due to Hurricanes Dennis and Katrina, which impacted Mediacom systems in Alabama, Florida and Mississippi. The company said about 9,000 of the 17,000 basic subscriber losses were related to the hurricanes.
