Comedy Central has ordered 10 episodes of DreamWorks Television’s “American Lives,” the network announced Wednesday. The half-hour documentary-style improvised series is about a group of fake local newscasters who interact with real people while on “assignment.”

The pilot was originally commissioned by NBC, which passed on the project. “American Lives” is created by Dan Mazer (“Da Ali G Show”) and will premiere during summer 2006.

“Anyone who watches the local news knows that it is inherently, albeit unintentionally, humorous,” said Lauren Corrao, executive VP of original programming and development.
