Peter Dunn has been named president and general manager of CBS flagship station WCBS-TV in New York, it was announced Wednesday.

Mr. Dunn has been president of sales and spot sales for the Viacom Television Stations Group. He previously oversaw significant growth as president and general manager of Viacom’s Philadelphia CBS station, KYW-TV, and later ran the KYW-WPSG-TV duopoly. He will report to Tom Kane, president and CEO of the 40-station Viacom group.

“Peter is a superb station operator and sales executive, and this promotion is the natural progression for someone of his talent and skill,” Mr. Kane said in the announcement. “His work in Philadelphia, where he was able to reverse a decades-long ratings slide against two formidable competitors, is testament to his abilities as a team leader and as someone who doesn’t back away from a challenge.”
