ABC News has given additional duties to the anchor of “This Week With George Stephanopoulos.” The division announced Monday that Mr. Stephanopoulos also will serve as the network’s chief Washington correspondent.

The expanded role will find Mr. Stephanopoulos, who was a senior presidential adviser in the Clinton administration, overseeing coverage of Congress and reporting on major political and policy topics for all ABC News programs and platforms. He also is scheduled to report on the country’s political fissures in a 2006 prime-time special, which he will anchor.

“George’s terrific reporting, keen insight and outstanding sources are invaluable to our Washington bureau and this entire news division,” said ABC News President David Westin. “It is also gratifying that ‘This Week’ has just enjoyed its best November sweep performance in three years.”
