“Sopranos” creator David Chase shot down the idea of spinning off his hit HBO mob drama as a feature film.

“We used to talk about it, we don’t anymore,” Mr. Chase said. “I think what we’re gonna be doing in the next year and a half is what would have been that movie.”

Answering questions at the Television Critics Association’s press tour, Mr. Chase said the upcoming sixth season — which includes 12 episodes to air this year and eight episodes slated for 2007 — will offer closure for the show’s fans.

Guest stars in the new season include Ben Kingsley playing himself and veteran actor Hal Holbrook.

Otherwise, Mr. Chase and actors from the series appearing on a panel were characteristically mum about giving away any details about the upcoming season, which begins in March.

“Can anybody else please, please talk about this?” one critic pleaded.
