Lynn Pitts will become executive producer of the weekend editions of “Today,” NBC News President Steve Capus announced Thursday, the same day CBS News announced Ms. Pitts’ husband, Byron, is being elevated to national correspondent at that network.

The assignment, which fills the hole left when Alex Wallace was promoted to NBC News VP in January, takes effect Feb. 8. Ms. Pitts will report to NBC News Senior VP Phil Griffin.

“Her wide-ranging experience across virtually every platform in network news makes her not only a great addition to the team at ‘Weekend Today,’ but also to the executive team,” Mr. Capus said.

Ms. Pitts previously worked for 23 years at CBS, including a multi-year stint as an executive producer of “The Early Show.” Her CBS News career began in Los Angeles in 1980 as a writer at CBS-owned KNXT-TV, now KCBS-TV. Ms. Pitts earned multiple Emmys working on weeknight and weekend editions of “CBS Evening News,” “CBS Sunday Morning” and the documentary franchise “Before Your Eyes.”
