The emotional roller coaster ride continues at ABC News, where “World News Tonight” co-anchor Elizabeth Vargas Friday told colleagues she is expecting her second child in late summer.

With co-anchor Bob Woodruff recovering from serious injuries suffered in a roadside bomb blast two weeks ago in Iraq, in which ABC News cameraman Doug Vogt also was hurt, “It’s good to get such wonderful, life-affirming news,” ABC News President David Westin told Ms. Vargas, he said in an announcement.

Ms. Vargas, 43, is married to singer-songwriter Marc Cohn, with whom she has a 3-year-old son, Zachary.

Ms. Vargas and Mr. Woodruff debuted as co-anchors of ABC News’ evening newscast at the beginning of January. She also co-anchors “20/20” and plans to anchor both broadcasts through late summer.

Diane Sawyer and Charles Gibson will continue to fill in for Mr. Woodruff until the end of February. When the timetable for Mr. Woodruff’s recovery becomes clearer in the coming weeks, ABC News will announce further plans for substitution on the broadcast.
