CNBC announced Tuesday that it has hired Rebecca Jarvis, the runner-up in “The Apprentice 4,” as an associate reporter, effective April 3.

Ms. Jarvis will be based at CNBC headquarters in New Jersey, where she will work with every department, including the assignment desk, video editing and graphic art, and will accompany CNBC reporters in the field as well as develop and report her own stories.

“Rebecca has shown herself to be an intelligent, poised, inquisitive individual with a keen interest in business reporting,” said David Friend, CNBC senior VP for business news. “Her background as an investment banker and currency trader has provided her with the insights that will give her depth as a business reporter.”

At the age of 16 Ms. Jarvis began a three-year stint as an on-air reporter for “Whatever,” a weekly teen program seen on KARE-TV, the NBC affiliate in Minneapolis.

A graduate of the University of Chicago, she has worked as an investment banking analyst and a short-term interest rate trader in London and since “The Apprentice” has been a freelance print reporter for such publications as Crain’s Chicago Business.
