Fox’s MyNetworkTV has signed Young Broadcasting’s KRON-TV, the independent station in San Francisco, the sixth-largest market in the country. The Thursday announcement was made by Fox Television Stations CEO Jack Abernethy and Young Chairman Vincent Young.

The deal boosts clearances to 51 percent of the country for MyNetworkTV, which will launch Sept. 5 with 12 hours of programming on six nights a week.

“KRON’s affiliation with MyNetworkTV is a significant agreement for us and we are excited to be partnered with Young Broadcasting,” Mr. Abernethy said in the announcement.

“KRON is coming home to the network television business,” Mr. Young said in the announcement. “For Young Broadcasting, this represents an opportunity to grow our business with the last group to successfully launch a new national network.”

KRON has been an independent since 2001, when NBC balked at the asking price for the station and instead made a deal with Granite Broadcasting to purchase KNTV-TV in San Jose, Calif.
