SoapNet and Sony Pictures Television said Thursday they have made a deal that lets SoapNet televise episodes of top-rated daytime drama “The Young and the Restless” the same day they appear on CBS. Beginning April 24, “Y&R” will appear weekdays at 7 p.m. (ET) on SoapNet.

SoapNet General Manager Deborah Blackwell said the channel has wanted “Y&R” since before she arrived in 2001. “I think people have realized over that period of time that programming can live on more than one platform and it just adds to the audience,” she said.

The network, which was originally formed to repurpose ABC’s soaps, will now have soaps from NBC (“Days of Our Lives”) and CBS (“Y&R”) on its schedule. Sony produces both shows.

SoapNet will temporarily add Procter & Gamble’s CBS soap “Guiding Light” to its lineup April 22, before the Daytime Emmys are awarded. That night, the network will show the episodes submitted for the four shows nominated for outstanding drama series, including “Guiding Light,” which is the only one of the four that does not regularly appear on SoapNet.
