CBS, NBC Shuffle Wednesday Schedules

CBS and NBC are rescheduling their Wednesday nights, with CBS moving “Amazing Race” to the family-friendly 8 p.m. (ET) hour and NBC returning “Law & Order” to its traditional 10 p.m. slot.

“Race” had been performing in its 10 p.m. Tuesday time period, but CBS’s Wednesday 8 p.m. comedy block of “Out of Practice” and “Courting Alex” has suffered in the ratings, coming in fifth in the hour last week in adults 18 to 49, according to Nielsen Media Research. Instead of “Race,” CBS will air repeats of its crime procedurals on Tuesdays.

While NBC found a performer in “Deal or No Deal” Wednesdays at 8 p.m., “Law & Order’s” move to 9 p.m. to make room for the debuting drama “Heist” at 10 p.m. has been a disappointment for both shows. Starting this week, “Heist” will move to 9 p.m., with “Law & Order” moving back to 10 p.m. Last week’s “Law & Order” was fourth in the highly competitive time period (which includes ABC’s “Lost” and Fox’s “American Idol”) in the demo, losing half of its “Deal” lead-in. At 10 p.m., “Heist” was a distant third.
