Russ Mitchell, a 14-year CBS News veteran, has been named sole anchor of the Sunday edition of “CBS Evening News.”

He will continue as a rotating anchor with Thalia Assuras and Mika Brzezinski on the Saturday “Evening News,” as Tracy Smith’s co-anchor of “The Saturday Early Show,” as a contributing correspondent for “CBS Sunday Morning” and a substitute anchor on the weeknight editions of “CBS Evening News With Bob Schieffer” and weekday editions of “The Early Show.”

“Russ is one of our most versatile anchors. He has more than earned this position, and I’m pleased to further raise Russ’s profile at CBS News,” CBS News and Sports President Sean McManus said in the announcement Monday.
