Ghen Maynard, the former CBS alternative programming executive who shepherded “Survivor” onto the air, is returning to the CBS Corp. fold.

Mr. Maynard is returning as executive VP of alternative programming and entertainment content for new media for the CBS Paramount Network Television Entertainment Group. Nancy Tellem, president of the company, made the announcement Thursday.

Mr. Maynard, who served as senior VP of alternative programming and creative strategies for CBS Entertainment from 2002 to 2004, moved to NBC to run the network’s prime-time development. As part of a series of executive shifts, Mr. Maynard left NBC in January.

In addition to resuming responsibility for alternative programming at CBS, he will oversee alternative programming for the newly formed network The CW network and the company’s studio, CBS Paramount Network Television. In addition, Mr. Maynard takes on oversight of original programming for the company’s wireless and online platforms.

Mr. Maynard has a long history with CBS. In the mid-1990s, before working his way up the executive ranks, he was an assistant to then-drama development executive Nina Tassler, who is now CBS’s entertainment president. He began his career as a post-production coordinator at ABC Productions.
