NBC News has named Natalie Morales national correspondent for the “Today” show. In addition to reporting for “Today,” she will continue to be featured regularly in the program’s third hour.

Ms. Morales joined NBC News in 2002 as an MSNBC anchor and correspondent before becoming a backup news anchor and occasional substitute co-anchor for “Today.”

“She’s been an important part of the program’s extended family, and this just formalizes her role. I couldn’t be happier about making it official,” NBC News President Steve Capus said in the announcement.
