In the first of its creative executive announcements, The CW has named Michael Roberts executive VP of current programming. Dawn Ostroff, the network’s president of entertainment, to whom Mr. Roberts will report, made the announcement Thursday.

Mr. Roberts will supervise and provide creative direction for all scripted series on The CW’s prime-time schedule. Most recently he was executive VP of current programming for The WB, a position he held since February 2005. He had been overseeing The WB’s current programming department since July 2004, when he was named senior VP of the department.

Before joining The WB Mr. Roberts worked in the feature film business as a production executive, most recently for 10 years at Walt Disney Pictures. He began his career at Paramount Pictures as a creative executive and also worked at Weintraub Entertainment Group.
