Rocco Commisso, chairman and CEO of Mediacom Communications, on Monday said he wants to be able to charge Google and other Internet providers who use Mediacom’s broadband network to reach cable subscribers.

He opposes efforts by lawmakers to bar cable and phone companies from using their power over broadband networks to discriminate against rival content providers. “If people use our pipe, we should get something out of it,” Mr. Commisso said during a conference sponsored by the American Cable Association in Washington.

In a follow-up with reporters, Mr. Commisso said he opposed government efforts to ensure so-called network neutrality. “Don’t tinker with the existing laws, but at the end of the day, I should get a return on my investment,” Mr. Commisso said.
