NBA to Sell Playoff Recaps on Apple’s iTunes

The National Basketball League said Monday it will make recaps of its playoff games available online at Apple Computer’s iTunes Music Store.

ABC, ESPN and TNT Sports are working with the NBA to produce 15- to 20-minute recaps of all playoff matches available for purchase 24 hours after the games are televised. TNT Sports also will provide 15 special episodes of “Inside the NBA on TNT,” the league said in a statement.

Digital distribution of television shows took off last October after Apple and ABC teamed to make episodes of popular ABC programs such as “Lost” available on iTunes. Other networks have followed suit, and the online service now offers shows such as NBC’s “The Office” by the episode or by the season.

Basketball fans will be able to buy the game recaps through a “Follow Your Team” package of one club’s games for $8.99 and an “Inside the NBA” package for $8.99. A package of complete final-round games costs $5.99. Individual videos can be purchased for $1.99.

The NBA Playoffs on iTunes will be promoted on ESPN, ESPN.com, TNT and NBA TV.
