WE has ordered a competition reality series based on the 1980s Patrick Swayze film, “Dirty Dancing.”

The new WE show, “Dirty Dancing: Living the Dream,” puts 30 young women under the instruction of six male dancing instructors at a resort, the network said Tuesday.

WE has ordered eight episodes of the series, which will be hosted by choreographer Cris Judd. Don Weiner Productions will produce the series for a planned December premiere.

The network has been on a reality kick since Executive VP and General Manager Kim Martin took over programming for the channel last year. The 27th-ranked network recently announced new tag line — “WE Have More Fun” — and is close to overtaking perennial second-place women’s network Oxygen in the ratings.

WE also plans to debut “Designer to the Stars: Kari Whitman,” an eight-episode, half-hour series chronicling the career of a Hollywood interior designer. “Stars” has a January premiere date.

The additions to WE’s slate were accompanied by changes in the network’s executive ranks, where Steve Cheskin has been promoted to senior VP of programming, and Gena McCarthy has joined the network as VP of development and production.
