Amp’d to Distribute Phones in Best Buy

Youth-centric mobile television firm Amp’d Mobile will begin offering its phones and accompanying service in more than 700 Best Buy stores starting next month, chief operating officer Bill Stone said.

By the end of the year, Amp’d will be available in more than 5,000 retail outlets, including local wireless shops, putting the company on track to meet its business plan of reaching 200,000 to 300,000 subscribers by year-end, Mr. Stone said.

Mr. Stone was responding to a Wall Street Journal article that said the company had signed up fewer than 10,000 customers in its first five months. He declined to comment on that figure, but said, “We are on track for our business plan.”

He said Amp’d’s average revenue per subscriber is twice the industry average. “We are not about attracting cheap voice subscribers,” he said.

The company began distributing in retail outlets during the past 60 days.
