‘CSI’ Franchise Headed for iTunes

CBS Corp. and Apple Computer said Thursday they reached an agreement under which a number of prime-time television series, including the popular “CSI” franchise, will be offered for download on Apple’s iTunes Music Store.

For $1.99 per download, consumers will be able to download “CSI,” “CSI: Miami,” “CSI: NY,” “Survivor,” “NCIS” and “Numb3rs.”

The pact is the latest in a string of deals that Apple has struck in recent months as it looks to strengthen its ties with Hollywood and to knock down the barriers between the computer and the television set. The craze began in October when The Walt Disney Co.’s ABC began offering popular series on iTunes. Other networks have followed suit.

The deal is one of many designed to make CBS shows available through a variety of distribution platforms. Already CBS has distribution deals with Yahoo and Google, and offers video streaming through its CBS.com Web site. Further, CBS has been offering audio podcasts of TV shows through iTunes for months.
