The push to be first on the internet with a preview of that evening’s flagship newscast increased Tuesday with the announcement that “NBC Nightly News” has launched an “on-camera video blog” by “Nightly” anchor Brian Williams.

Titled “Early Nightly,” this blog is scheduled to appear on msnbc.com by late morning ET and to give a preliminary sense of what “Nightly” plans to cover that day, based on the discussion during the 9:30 a.m. editorial conference call. “Early Nightly,” which will run a minute or two and be informal, also will be available on NBC affiliate websites and via NBC Mobile.

In a test “Early Nightly” posted Monday afternoon and again Tuesday morning, Mr. Williams gives a whirlwind tour of NBC’s Tel Aviv bureau and showed the flak jacket he takes out on assignment.

Mr. Williams already posts a written blog, “The Daily Nightly,” after the 2:30 p.m. editorial conference call.

ABC’s “World News Tonight” and “CBS Evening News” post short newscasts on their respective web pages in mid-afternoon.
