TelevisionWeek is trawling video-sharing Web sites to find the hottest clips spreading on the Internet.

The setup: Talk about not using your head. During the second period of extra time in the July 9 World Cup final, using what appeared to be a very strong noggin, France team captain Zinedine Zidane rammed Italy’s Marco Materazzi in the chest, knocking him to the ground. For inappropriate use of his dome, Mr. Zidane got a red flag. Italy went on to win the game in a round of penalty kicks.

The source: Numerous consumers captured the moment from ABC and Britain’s ITV channel and submitted short video clips to several viral video sites such as YouTube, Break, Google and iFilm after the game.

The hits: By July 12, versions of the clip had generated more than 700,000 views on YouTube, more than 180,000 on iFilm and about 700,000 on Break.
