The “CBS Evening News with Katie Couric” will become the first network flagship newscast to be simulcast on the Web after it debuts in September.

The move was announced Thursday by CBS News and Sports President Sean McManus and CBS Digital Media President Larry Kramer.

“This is a groundbreaking development in making the program available to the largest possible audience,” Mr. McManus said in the statement. “For people who can’t be in front of their televisions when the ‘Evening News’ is on, they can now watch the program live on their computers.”

The complete broadcast also may be viewed on-demand anytime after the live simulcast. Registration will be required to access the program online, and viewers will see it as it airs in their time zones.

“It’s another example of how we intend to use our Web site to complement our broadcast-and, most importantly, to benefit our viewers,” Ms. Couric said.
